Who can attend this conference?
Current students attending a school at the York Region District School Board; and those who identify as East Asian (This is open to your interpretation because there are many different East Asian cultures and nations. For example, your family could be Chinese and raised in Jamaica or you could be multiracial with family from Korea, Peru and Canada.).

When is the conference?
It is on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm (EST). Light breakfast will be served at 9:00 am.

Where is the conference?
It is at Thornhill Secondary School. The address is 167 Dudley Avenue Thornhill, ON L3T 2E5.

What are the registration fees and deadlines?
The conference is free. Deadline to register is May 10, 2024.

When and how will I know that my registration has been confirmed?
You will be contacted during the period of May 13 - 24, 2024. If you are placed on the waitlist, we will email you as soon as possible on whether a spot is available.

What are my transportation options to get to the conference?
If you are taking public transit (i.e. bus, subway), we can reimburse you with cash on the day of the conference. If you are taking Uber or any other form of paid transportation that is not public transit, we will not reimburse you.

If your school is relatively far from Thornhill S.S. and there is a significant number of students from your school who will attend the conference, a teacher representative at your school may arrange a taxi van to transport you to and from Thornhill S.S.. This teacher representative will inform you of this option during the week of May 13 - 17, 2024. If you are wondering whether this will be an option for you, please email the event organizers.

Will meals or refreshments be provided during the conference?
A light breakfast, full lunch, snacks and drinks will be served on the day of the conference. If you have any dietary restrictions, please list them in the registration form. We strongly recommend that you bring your own water bottle to help limit waste.

Are there any accessibility accommodations available?
If you have any access requirements (ex: captioning, reserved front row seat, large print, wheelchair access, gender neutral bathroom), please list them in the registration form.

What is the dress code for the conference?
While there isn’t a dress code, we suggest dressing comfortably, as you’ll be moving in between different rooms at the school. The event planning team will be taking photos and videos, some of which will be shared on our Instagram.

Will I receive volunteer hours for attending the conference?
Yes, volunteer hours will be signed off on the day of the event. You do not need to bring a volunteer form to the event, as the event organizers will provide one for you.

Do I need to have experience to register for this conference?
No experience is required to attend! We look forward to having student participants with all levels of experience and different backgrounds.
